Core tasks

  • Liaise with growers, facility managers, cold chain management staff, markets, and other drivers to ensure timely delivery and processing.
  • Assist with loading and unloading produce using lifting and tipping devices.
  • Maintain temperature control of the truck/ container.
  • Undertake regular quality checks of vehicles to ensure they can be driven safely.
  • Ensure goods are stowed and securely covered to prevent loss and damage.
  • Maintain appropriate records.

The Career Pathways

Truck drivers are critical to the horticulture industry, without them, there would be no produce at supermarkets.

They help to move produce from rural and remote farms and processing facilities to urban markets and supermarkets.

They are responsible for the timely delivery of produce whilst maintaining high safety standards and following all appropriate cold chain management procedures.
